RIOT GAMES

For DE-YAN I developed, designed and animated a visual concept for the World Finals of Riot’s League of Legends in Paris, Berlin and London. Every single piece of the visual language I created entirely by using analogue tools likes spray cans, markers, stencils and brushes and composed them digitally.

VISUAL LANGUAGE

The new visual language of the World Finals was based on illustrated landmarks from the three venues in Paris, Berlin and London as well as tags and images of the participating players and their teams themselves. Together with elements from the field of graffiti and street art, they formed a rich toolkit for creating a wide variety of media. The result was an anachronistic, rebellious and therefore authentic visual language for the young target group.

POSTER DESIGN – LIMITED EDITION

Another task was to design additional poster versions. These were to be less corporate and more artistically illustrated and should serve as merchandise for the fans. I also used all the elements of the previously developed toolbox, but expanded the color palette in order to have maximum creative freedom. This gave fans of Faker, Maple, Oddie and others their idol as an artistically illustrated portrait.

VISUAL LANGUAGE – BLACK & WHITE

During the design process, an even more reduced design direction was created, which completely avoided colors and only used black and white. This reduction gave the visual concept an even more anarchic and rebellious character.

visual identity toolkit

All the illustrated elements using graffiti cans, markers and brushes were combined in a large toolkit to create a wide variety of media using graphic collages. This toolkit thus served as both an internal and external design kit for the client.

BRUSH LETTERING

In addition to using various graffiti tools, I also tested working with brushes of different sizes. I painted a range of letterings in large format on paper and, after digitizing them, used them to design a variety of posters.
